history

Ninaber van Eyben boasts almost a century of experience of selling the finest china and tableware to customers in The Hague and throughout the Netherlands. The name Ninaber has become synonymous with reliability, service and good taste.

De eerste zaak aan de Frederik Henkdriklaan in Den Haag.

In 1917, great-grandfather Gerrit opened the first china shop on Frederik Hendriklaan. His business flourished until the start of the Second World War forced him to move to smaller premises. That, however, didn’t last long. So many customers flooded to the shop that Ninaber decided to expand.

Ninaber van Eyben was the first entrepreneur in the Netherlands to introduce a wedding list service: The bride and groom deposited a wedding list with Ninaber, listing the gifts they wanted to receive (often a china set). This way, the couple could ensure it would receive complete china set, whereas the guests could rest assured that their presents would be truly welcome. Over the years, the gift service has become one of Ninaber’s unique selling points.

A lot has changed over the years. Couples often opt to live together rather than get married. However, the gift list – as it is now called – is still popular with couples that decide to set up house together. In the past year alone, more than 300 couples have registered their gift list with Ninaber van Eyben.

These days the Ninaber van Eyben shop is located on Hoogstraat: three stories packed with anything and everything that you will need to cook, serve and dine in style. From potato knives to espresso machines, from crystal carafes to chandeliers and from Wedgwood to Alessi.
